Hard Crackers Event

Hard Crackers Event: Sunday, September 17, 2017

Hard Crackers is honored to be hosting David Ranney for a reading from his book-length memoir, still in manuscript form, titled Outside In and Inside Out: Living and Working at the Point of Production, and discussion on Sunday, September 17th at 2 PM.

In introducing the memoir, Dave writes:

Between 1977 and 1982 I worked in seven factories located in Chicago’s Southeast side. The work included participation in some labor struggles. But the day-to-day work itself illuminated for me the potential of collective action toward a just and egalitarian society. What follows includes my memories of both the struggles and the work itself.

During the discussion after the reading, Dave would be especially interested in talking about the following kinds of questions:
What can the day-to-day experiences and struggles of manufacturing workers in the 1970’s tell us about today? What sorts of jobs, working conditions, wages, environmental impacts should we be working toward? What is the relation between class and race? What role should legal strategies play in work place struggles? What roles and responsibilities should the left play in the work place?
